Verde Valley Wine Consortium to Participate in Jasło International Wine Festival, Strengthening Sister City Ties Sedona, AZ – The Verde Valley Wine Consortium is proud to announce its participation in the Days of Wine Festival, taking place August 29–31 in Jasło, Poland—Sedona’s Friendship City partner through the Sister Cities International program.
The delegation, led by Danusia Szumowski, a member of both the Verde Valley Wine Consortium and the Sedona Sister Cities Association, will represent the emerging Northern Arizona wine region and deepen cultural and economic ties between the two communities. “The shared passion for winemaking unites our regions,” said Szumowski. “We’re excited to exchange ideas with Jasło’s winemakers and showcase the bold, expressive wines that thrive in our high-desert terroir.”
Though separated by geography and climate, Jasło and the Verde Valley share remarkable similarities. Both are relatively young wine-producing regions that have gained recognition for their quality and innovation. Each is home to small, artisanal producers who emphasize sustainability, regional identity, and community-based collaboration. The Verde Valley’s warm, high-elevation desert climate—paired with volcanic and limestone-rich soils—yields bold, fruit-forward varietals such as Petite Sirah, Syrah, Malvasia Bianca, and Viognier.
In contrast, Jasło’s cooler, continental climate and loess clay soils favor crisp, aromatic whites like Solaris, Hibernal, and Riesling, often grown on frost-resistant rootstocks suited for shorter seasons. This contrast in terroir and techniques presents rich opportunities for cross-cultural dialogue in viticulture, wine education, climate adaptation, and sustainable practices.
