Sedona City Council Approves Friendship Cities Agreement with Jasło, Poland
In a unanimous vote, the Sedona City Council approved a Friendship Cities Agreement between Sedona and Jasło, Poland—marking a significant step forward in an international relationship built on mutual cultural, educational, and community interests.
The Sedona Sister Cities Association (SSCA) sought approval following a year of expanding exchanges with the historic Polish city of 35,000 residents, located at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains and known for its 650-year history and growing wine industry.

SSCA had an incredible show of diplomatic and bilateral support this weekend. Representatives connected with the U.S. Consulate General in Kraków traveled to Jasło aboard the special Wine Train (Pociąg Winny) from Kraków and proudly marched alongside Edyta Wieczorek in the traditional opening parade to champion the Sedona–Jasło partnership.
Delegation to Jaslo for Days of Wine
The parade through the city center was accompanied by the Jasło Municipal Brass Band (Miejska Orkiestra Dęta) and drew winemakers and guests from across Poland and abroad.
Having official U.S. representatives actively join the community festivities brought wonderful visibility to our friendship city ties and highlighted the strong institutional backing our initiatives enjoy with the Consulate
Edyta Wieczorek
The Sedona Sister Cities Association proudly announces that Edyta Wieczorek has been appointed as the Sister Cities International representative to Poland.
A native of Jasło, Poland, and an active member of the Arizona Polish American Congress, Edyta has long championed cultural exchange and international friendship. Her leadership was instrumental in initiating the outreach between Sedona, Arizona, and Jasło, Poland, paving the way for a formal Sister City relationship.
Edyta serves on the Board of the Sedona Sister Cities Association and is Chair of the Jasło, Poland Committee. Dividing her time between Arizona and Jasło, she was inspired by the mission of Sister Cities International — to build people-to-people relationships that foster peace and understanding among nations.

A unique international photography exhibition “Sedona Through the Lens”, that explores the breathtaking landscapes and vibrant cultural heritage of Sedona, was debuted in Poland as part of the expanding Jasło Sedona Sister Cities friendship. (see slide show below)
Polish Wine Tasting
An enthusiast group enjoyed tasting seventeen Polish wine provided by Jasło wineries. A June 29, 2026 free event sponsored by SSCA and Yavapai College. Led by Danusia Szumowski and Nancy Butterworth who traveled to Poland last year to introduce wines from our Verde Valley.

Photo Exchange: Jaslo-Sedona Sister Cities
NEW CULTURAL INITIATIVE LAUNCHES
A unique international photography exhibition “Sedona Through the Lens”, that explores the breathtaking landscapes and vibrant cultural heritage of Sedona, will debut in Poland this summer as part of the expanding Jasło Sedona Sister Cities friendship.
The project was proposed by Edyta Wieczorek, Chair of the Jasło Sister Cities Committee, and curated by Linda Goldenstein, longtime Sedona arts advocate, as a creative way to promote mutual understanding and artistic connection between the two communities.
The first exhibition will be held August 24–31, 2025, in Jasło’s Main Square, where twenty striking images will be presented in a high-quality outdoor format. The exhibition, which includes 11 contemporary photographs from Sedona photographers and 9 historic photographs courtesy of Nate Myers of the Sedona Heritage Museum will be accessible to the public throughout the final week of August.
This photo exchange marks the beginning of an ongoing cultural dialogue between the two cities—building friendships and fostering international understanding one image at a time. Plans are underway for a reciprocal exhibit of Jasło photographs, commemorating its 650 year history, to be hosted in Sedona in 2026.

Jaslo Delegation Journey 2024
The Sedona/Jaslo Sister City delegation, led by Chuck Marr, President of the Sedona Sister Cities Association, and Edyta Wieczorek, Chair of the Sedona Sister Cities Jaslo Committee, embarked on an unforgettable journey to Jaslo, Poland. The delegation also included Sister City members Dick Weisbaum, Miki Dzugan, Donna Foreman, and Danusia Szumowski.
The delegation was struck by the Jaslo community’s unwavering passion for family, history, and their city. Despite the near-total destruction at the end of World War II, the residents chose to rebuild on their historic land rather than relocate. This determination was captured beautifully by the director of the cultural center, who said, “Jaslo was destroyed by hate; it rebuilds with love.”
“The journey to Jaslo was more than a cultural exchange; it was an opportunity to build deep bonds between our communities. Each place we visited, each person we met, added to the rich tapestry of friendship that can connect Sedona and Jaslo”.
